The David C. Martin Award was created in 1999 and named after David C. Martin, MD. Dr. Martin was a leader in the field of geriatrics in the Pittsburgh area. His accomplishments included a strong leadership role in the development of the Benedum Geriatrics Center, as well as establishing the first geriatrics fellowship in Pittsburgh.
The award sponsors medical students, as well as students studying other healthcare disciplines (Pharmacy & Physical Therapy) from the Western Pennsylvania Region, to attend the American Geriatrics Society national meeting. The $1,500.00 honorarium is to be used solely to attend the conference, where the student will be presenting their work, as well as having a quality opportunity to engage with attendees of the AGS conference.
Since 2000, over 68 medical students have received the David C. Martin Award, totaling over $79,000.00 in honorariums.
